As part of our continued efforts to support the community after the impacts of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, we are proud to share the latest developments from OSNA’s recovery and revitalization initiatives. In this trilogy of efforts, we highlight the generosity of the Harborage Marina, the spirit of giving back, and the steps we are taking to restore the tree canopy in Old Southeast.
1. Harborage Marina’s Generosity and OSNA’s Response
In the aftermath of the hurricanes, the Harborage Marina stepped up to support local organizations by granting $1,250 to the Old Southeast Neighborhood Association (OSNA) to help with recovery. OSNA was fortunate to be one of the recipients of this generous funding, which allowed us to begin our own efforts to help those in need.
In the spirit of community and passing it forward, the 2024 OSNA board made the decision to match the $1,250 grant from our general operations fund, bringing the total amount to $2,500. This additional funding enabled us to make an even greater impact within the neighborhood.
2. Revitalizing the Old Southeast Tree Canopy
Beyond the immediate need for repairs and recovery, we are also focusing on the long-term revitalization of our neighborhood. In 2023, a thorough tree inventory revealed that our tree canopy is aging and in need of renewal. Many trees were lost during the storms, further highlighting the importance of reinvesting in our environment.
To kickstart this vital effort, OSNA has committed to investing $1,500 into new tree plantings within Old Southeast. This initiative will help reestablish a vibrant, sustainable canopy for future generations to enjoy. We are focused on planting young, resilient trees that will contribute to a greener, healthier neighborhood.
3. Supporting the Polish American Club’s Restoration
Recognizing the widespread damage that many of our neighbors sustained, including the historic Polish American Club, the 2025 OSNA board has decided to allocate $1,000 of the matched grant toward the relief efforts of the Polish American Club. The club, which has long been a cultural pillar for our community, sustained substantial damage during the hurricanes. This contribution will help them in their ongoing restoration efforts, ensuring that this beloved institution can continue to thrive for future generations.
Looking Ahead
With your support, OSNA is proud to continue working together to help rebuild, restore, and reinvigorate our neighborhood. The combined efforts of residents, local organizations, and the OSNA board are what make Old Southeast a truly special place to live.
Stay tuned for more updates on the tree program and how you can get involved in these exciting initiatives. Together, we can ensure that Old Southeast remains a vibrant and thriving community for generations to come!
