On Saturday, May 18th, 2024, the Old Southeast Neighborhood Association participated in the VFW Day of Service in St Petersburg, Florida. It was considered a huge success locally, with the highest volunteer turnout ever for one of our neighborhood cleanup projects!
THANK YOU to the 25 volunteers who cleaned up 3,060 pounds of overgrown or dead plants and litter along the bypass road to the Army Reserve, Polish American Society, and Coast Guard facilities! Check out the Photo Gallery!
Teamwork nailed this Old Southeast Neighborhood Association's Day of Service initiative, which was conducted in partnership with the VFW, Keep Pinellas Beautiful, and the City of St. Petersburg.
A Special Shout-Out to Amy Parsons for her Green Machine and trailer plus plant advice, Fonda and Steve Sabin for their tools, trailer, and OSE Market lunch, and the Bayboro team for power tools and lots of labor. Will Engleby supplied additional critical tools. OSNA Board members turned out in force, including Sheila Monahan, who provided her plant identification and trimming expertise. So many other neighbors pitched in their hard labor in blazing heat and humidity!
Fitting for this Day Of Service was terrific help from USCG Active Duty and Auxiliary members--Eli, thank you for snagging the USCG ATV! We also want to thank Officer Jones of SPPD for keeping us safe.
Next will follow a mulching process and then Phase 2 native plantings in the fall. Thanks again!

However, this Day of Serving extends its invitation to all community members dedicated to neighborhood improvement. Volunteers from diverse backgrounds and experiences are encouraged to participate.
